AWS Application Discovery Service

Closed to new customers. If you ran it, your data is probably still usable.

What it is

AWS's previous discovery service, offering agentless collection through a VMware appliance and an agent-based option for per-server detail. It closed to new customers on 7 November 2025, and the Discovery Connector stopped accepting data on 17 November 2025. AWS names AWS Transform as the successor.

How we use it

If you ran a discovery exercise in the last two years, do not assume the effort is wasted. ADS output can still feed a Migration Evaluator assessment, and we would rather work from what you have than ask you to collect it twice.

One thing to watch: AWS's own deprecation notice for the Discovery Connector points at the Agentless Collector as its replacement, and that guidance is now stale, because the Agentless Collector has itself been superseded by the AWS Transform discovery tool. Follow the notice literally and you land two steps behind.
