AWS Transform assessment

AWS's own migration assessment. Ingests inventory you already hold and returns a business case, with no appliance to deploy.

What it is

A first-party AWS capability that turns an existing server inventory into a costed migration business case. It produces EC2 right-sizing from your current specs, EBS and FSx recommendations, side-by-side TCO scenarios, and a business value assessment. AWS states there is no additional charge for it.

How we use it

We use it for speed, usually to get a directional figure in front of a stakeholder quickly, then rebuild the licensing layer separately before anything is treated as a recommendation.

One thing to watch: it is only as good as what you feed it. Utilisation quality, dependency data and licensing edition detail all come from the source rather than from Transform, so a thin inventory produces a confident-looking model built on very little, and the entitlement analysis still has to happen elsewhere.
